This Saturday (31 March) sees the quarters, semis and final of the Derek Longley Trophy, played at the Pocklington Sports and Social Club.
The semi-serious tournament is to remember the fact that Derek, who passed away last February, loved his game of darts and winning was never important. All matches are finished on double one, whilst scores of 26 and under see the players incur a fine that goes to St. Leonard’s Hospice.
Forty five players were whittled down to the final eight last Friday night in a 37-match qualifying tournament. Chris Gowthorpe, Dave Gowthorpe, Steve Levitt, Colin Shipley, Gary Smith (all US Club, Pocklington), Harvey May (Robin Hood, Middleton), Dave Smith and Kevin Smith (both Pocklington Sports Club) have progressed to the final stages.
The quarter-final draw will be made at 7.30pm with play commencing at 8pm. Entry to the event is free with supper kindly provided by Gebs and Angela Brigham. A raffle will be running with the proceeds also going to St. Leonard’s Hospice.
