Busy month for Allerthorpe

Allerthorpe golf club’s seniors have had several games, most of which were played at home, with just one match away at Malton and Norton Golf Club.

May was certainly a very busy month, starting on 2 May against Forest of Galtres, which produced an excellent match followed by some good food and after dinner speeches by the captains Andrew Jennings and Peter Smith.

On 9 May, Allerthorpe Park Golf Club hosted a visit from Hessle Golf Club, captained by Ken Markham and this match too produced some excellent golf and, of course, the obligatory after dinner comments.

On 17 May, the team flew off to Malton and Norton and were treated to excellent hospitality and food by the club, preceded by a difficult game on a brilliant course. Unfortunately, things did not quite go to plan as they found that playing away from home presented them with some different challenges especially on such a challenging course which was in excellent condition.

Thanks go to all the players at Malton and Norton, and to the staff for providing an excellent dinner and, of course, to the groundstaff for providing us with a course to remember - but not the result.

A few days later they hosted Beverley Westwood Golf Club. The first game out, which was Andrew Jennings and Tim Broadbent, facing stiff opposition in Peter Robertson and Graham Grimes, was an excellent and exciting game, which was nip and tuck all the way around. The highlight was to be the performance of Tim, who left everyone wondering where his 21 handicap was, as he pushed Allerthorpe to a win.

Finally, Thursday 31 May sees them hosting yet another match, this time against Pike Hill Golf Club, as a very busy month comes to a close.
