East Riding County League Division Three
Following last week’s poor performance, Weighton were keen to make amends against Brandesburton.
Despite the return of several key players, manager John Girling was still forced to field an understrength side for the second week running.
Weighton started the brighter of the two sides and went close early on, on a number of occasions, but an organised Brandesburton defence and a degree of luck meant that the Weighton attack could not find the back of the net.
For the rest of the first half Weighton continued to press and create chances but, by half time, the score remained goalless.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first, with Weighton attacking but to no avail.
Against the run of play, with about 15 minutes left, Brandesburton broke and scored a soft goal.
With time running out, Weighton continued to press, now to save the game, but were constantly denied.
Whilst Brandesburton were a well-organised side, Weighton players know that these are games they should and must win if they are to be realistic promotion contenders.
With three losses on the bounce in the league, manager John Girling is looking forward to next week’s game, when Weighton should finally be at full strength.
