Pocklington Aztecs finish on a high with 6-0 win over Huntington

Huntington 0 Pocklington Aztecs 6

York & District Mitchells League - Under 15’s

After the heroics in last match against high flying Tadcaster it was chance for the lads to show the great improvement seen this year.

On a windy afternoon, Captain Aaron Fraiser won the toss and decided to play with the wind behind in the first half, which proved an inspired choice as the match developed.

The Aztecs got off to a flyer with a great through ball to Johnny Loft to run onto . He then lifted the ball into the net with good use of the wind - a great start after 2 minutes.

The Aztecs could have doubled their lead when Mila Cheilman made a good interception at centre-half and played the ball coolly to Cameron Coulthard, who flicked it onto Johnny but his shot hit the post.

George Waite was having a good game at left back and was making some inspired tackles. A good spell of possession followed with excellent link up play from Nick Price Norman and Jack White at the centre of midfield. It was after this period of possession that the next goal came.

Jack was unlucky not to score when his shot was well saved by the Huntington keeper. This did not deter him. Within a minute Jack was played through but the Huntington defence up-ended him on the edge of the box. Jack stepped up and curled it round the wall into the bottom corner with the keeper stranded.

Huntington tried and tried to break the Aztecs defence but they were all sticking to their positions and putting in strong tackles. The 3rd goal was a delight to watch with clever feet from Cameron to skip past his marker and pass through to Johnny as he came from a wide position to slot home – excellent football.

Huntington then gave away another free-kick in the centre of the park but Jack’s free-kick was just wide. It was not long before Patrick Wilson, on as substitute, was rewarded for following up as Johnny whipped in a curling cross.

This had been spilled as Aaron Baxter put the defence and keeper under pressure. This summed up the first half with everyone committed to the cause. The first half was a spell of good football with great tackling and each lad looking for the return ball.

The only person not to have much to do was Peter Fox in goal – a tribute to the solid defending.

Half-Time 0-4.

After the break, the Aztecs were playing into the wind and it was not long before Huntington started their forward charge.

The lads were able to repel wave after wave with great tackling from all - even the strikers, Johnny and Sam Gibney were coming back to help their teammates. When Huntington did break through and the striker was 1 on 1 with the keeper, Peter pulled off a critical one-handed save to keep the pressure on Huntington.

As the ball fell to the ground Aaron Fraiser cleared this to Johnny to skip past his marker to score his hat-trick – a great counter attack. Huntington kept battling in the middle of the park but Nick and Cameron were immense in disrupting the flow and then passing out of trouble.

Ben Richardson played a sublime ball through to Sam, who crossed a teasing ball but Aaron Baxter’s shot went wide of the post.

The sixth and final goal came from persistence from Patrick to get to the bye-line and cross over to the back post for Johnny to steam in and prod his 4th and send the away supporters into sixth heaven!

A great end to the season and a well deserved win to finish.
