The Aztecs were buoyed by last week’s first half performance and started off well against Rawcliffe with good possession football.

Pocklington were playing good pass and move football and were unlucky not to get the first goal when George Waite played a great through ball to Johnny Loft, who played a short pass to a composed Cameron Coulthard – he then played a pass out on to the right wing for Ben Richardson to cut inside and shoot over.

The Aztecs were forcing Rawcliffe back in their half and earned two consecutive corners but were unable to produce a clinical finish.

Patrick Wilson was a real handful for the Rawcliffe centre backs and managed a shot on target but the keeper was up to the task.

Rawcliffe then had a chance against the run of play, just before half time, when their striker was put through to put the ball in the net, although it looked a marginal offside. To go in at half-time 1-0 down was an injustice.

The second half started off poorly, with the Aztecs conceding an unnecessary second goal when failing to clear their lines. The third followed shortly after.

The heads of the Aztecs could have gone down but they began to battle for every ball and believed that they could get back into the match, especially after playing so well in the first half.

The introduction of Nick Price-Norman into midfield started to pay dividends with some well-timed tackles and playing the ball to the feet of Patrick Wilson and Ben Richardson. Cameron Storey was unlucky not to score when put through by a hard working Patrick.

The first goal for the Aztecs came from a clever ball from Nick, which split the two central defenders and Johnny Loft sprinted through to pass the advancing keeper to bring the scores to 1-3.

But the belief was rising and it was not long before the Aztecs scored a second. Great battling from Patrick Wilson and Ben Richardson caused Rawcliffe to lose the ball near the right hand corner. With good link up play, Ben Richardson produced a cool finish to bring the scores to 2-3 and the fight was on for a draw or even push for the win.

Unfortunately, Rawcliffe sent the long ball over the defence and the striker was first to pounce.

The Aztecs did not stop and Johnny Loft was unlucky not to score when his shot from the edge of the corner box went just over the bar. Ben Richardson had another chance to get one back just before the end.

More positives this week, with good link up play, battling for every ball and keeping going for each other until the final whistle – the first win will come soon.
