Confident game for Holme Rovers

East Riding County League - Premier Division

AFC Woodlands..............................................................2

Holme Rovers.................................................................2

The last time Holme played Woodlands it was a bruising game that Holme lost, but they were not intimidated then and this time they were more than ready for the encounter.

Following last week’s victory over second-placed Little Weighton, Holme travelled to leaders Woodlands, who knew anything less than a win would probably not be enough. The home side got the perfect start on five minutes when Rob Constable fired home. Holme Rovers were undoubtedly still in this game having had early a few chances and eventually they equalised on 22 minutes, when striker Andy Copeland headed home.

An edgy second-half start from Woodlands saw Holme take the lead on 69 minutes through top-scorer Nic Cage. With nothing to lose but their reputation, Woodlands then threw everything at Holme, and finally equalised on 77 minutes.

For the remaining quarter of the game, Holme defended with confidence, and held out for a well-deserved 2-2 draw, against the experienced top-of-the-table team, scoring a well-deserved point. Man of the match awards went to right back Craig Burke and centre mid Tom Clarke.

Holme second team continued their run of success as well, winning their third game in a row, with a 2-1 win against Cottingham Forest. Holme’s goals were scored by Pete Smith and Mark Rasmussen.
