Barmby Moor Primary School football team travelled to Nottingham University for the semi-final of the FA Tesco schools football tournament.
If they won this round they would go to Wembley for the final. Barmby Moor have never come as far as this before in a tournament this big. With a team with this ability and a coach (Frank Cahill) who knows his football, they were sure to go far.
Their first game was against a strong team from a long way away. They had an amazing start but conceded an early goal with a lack of defending from some of the players.
At half time the score remained at 1-0.
After the break, Barmby gained possession with Alexander running through the middle. He slotted the ball through to Jack who made a fantastic run through the defenders. He placed the ball beautifully through the keeper’s legs. They thought they had won it until the opposition scored just before the final whistle, thereby losing 2-1.
It was the end of the road for Barmby Moor School. Although they lost that round, they have done really well to get that far. They started off at Market Weighton, which they won. Next they went to South Hunsley School in Hull, where they came second. The top two teams went to Grimsby. They won that, which enabled them to qualify for Nottingham.
Well done to all the boys and a big thanks to coach Frank Cahill.
