Rhoco staircases sponsored Barmby u8’s travelled to Wheldrake, a strong team who Barmby beat 2-1 in the home fixture.

Barmby started the match on the front foot Archie and Luca in midfield giving the home players no time on the ball, early chances were spurned with striker Will M miskicking with only the keeper to beat then a great cross by Archie found Luca who rattled the woodwork from close range. Barmby were well on top playing some of their best football of the season, Will J, Lewis and Jake had little to do in defence as Barmby had Wheldrake pinned back in their own half. Further chances were created with both Will M and Will J unable to convert the ball and Archie dragging a shot narrowly wide. Barmby were then dealt a sucker punch as from a free kick a powerful shot by the home player was blocked by Callum in goal but the ball just crept over the line giving Wheldrake the lead.

Barmby bounced straight back putting the home keeper under pressure a succession of shots were blocked, saved and scrambled to safety before eventually Barmby got the goal they deserved, top scorer Will M forcing the ball home on the stroke of half time 1-1.

Barmby started the second half as they ended the first creating chance after chance, this half Barmby were more clinical with their finishing, firstly Luca with another powerful strike found the bottom corner adding to his tally for the season then skipper Will J made it 3-1 with a finish off the inside of the post. Will M got the fourth goal from the edge of the area and Barmby were in total control.

Ryley and Noah joined the action and within ten seconds of being on the pitch Ryley scored for the second consecutive game finding the bottom corner after Archie’s shot had been saved.

This was the teams best performance of the season so far playing some lovely football and creating chance after chance against one of the stronger teams in the league. Man of the match for the second game in a row went to Archie who had another game full of energy and enthusiasm. Thanks to match ball sponsers Sanderson plumbing.

Ulleskelf u8s 3 Barmby Moor u8s 0

Barmby travelled to Ulleskelf for their final league fixture against by far the best team Barmby have played all season. The corresponding game in January at Barmby resulted in a 2-1 victory but the Barmby lads knew they were in for a tough game against a big strong Ulleskelf team.

The home pitch was very small and uneven which made any kind of fluent football almost impossible. From the kick off Barmby had to adapt to the conditions with no nonsence defending and hoping to get the lucky break. The early exchanges saw both teams giving 100% battling hard but it was Ulleskelf who looked the more likely to score and they took the lead with a great strike leaving Callum no chance in the Barmby goal.

Barmby did press looking for the equaliser, striker Will M was struggling against the big physical defenders the ball just not dropping kindly for the Barmby lads. A short corner found Luca who shot powerfully at goal from the edge of the box the ball agonisingly hitting the outside of the post and wide. On the stroke of half time Ulleskelf attacked down the left there seemed to be little danger but the striker curled a fantastic effort into the top corner making it 2-0 to the home team at half time.

Barmby started the second half brightly an early chance fell to striker Will M but he was unable to force the ball home, the game turned into a midfield battle with some very strong but fair challenges by both teams. Although Barmby tried their hardest to find a goal it was Ulleskelf who scored, another great finish past Callum, the Barmby keeper having no chance with any of the home teams goals. The lads battled till the end but it wasn’t to be as the ref blew the final whistle and all the lads shook hands, this was a game where every player showed their commitment to their team and congratulations to a very good Ulleskelf team who have only been beaten once all season and that was against Barmby back in January. Man of the match went to Lewis for a great battling display.

Barmby have now completed their first season in the Selby league and what a fantastic season we have had after defeat in the first fixture at Barlby the lads then won 10 consecutive games before the defeat at Ulleskelf, well done to all 14 players in the squad.
