South Cave finished the season with a comprehensive victory over Dunnington at the Bully Field.
Cave’s victory meant that Pocklington will join Cave in division four next season after they overcame Yapham and pipped the York side to second place in division five.
Dunnington won the toss and asked South Cave to bat first.
A solid start by Simon Franks (65), who also passed 500 runs for the season, and Phil Burgess was backed up by an aggressive innings of 77 by Santosh Bangar.
Bangar and Franks’ innings included 16 fours and six sixes, in which they shared a 126-run partnership and pushed the score on, making Dunnington’s young bowlers toil.
Dunnington fought back and took three middle order wickets after the dismissal of both Franks and Bangar, but a well-crafted 50 from Paddy Mountifield and an explosive 38 from 13 balls by Antony Franks took Cave to their highest total of the season, 285-7.
In reply, Dunnington lost wickets at regular intervals with opening bowler and leading wicket taker for the season Jack Gorbutt taking 2-13, with only skipper D Gough offering any sustained resistance with a battling 29.
For Cave, Antony Franks also backed up his batting by taking 4-9 with a spell of accurate swing bowling.
The first XI will now have completed a fantastic debut season in the York Vale Cricket League and they will look for more success in the coming seasons.
After the match the team celebrated and received the division five trophy (pictured).
The second XI’s match versus Rudston was called off as Rudston could not raise a team.
The seconds have finished a very creditable fourth in division two of the East Riding Independent League and they will hopefully continue the progress that they have made next season.
The secretary of the club would like to announce that the club presentation evening will be held at the Bully Field Pavilion on 24 September and the Annual General Meeting will take place on 20 October at 7pm.
