Pocklington hosted their six-a-side tournament on Sunday, which saw six local teams competing in the glorious Bank Holiday sunshine.
Bishop Wilton, Driffield, Ellerton Allstars, Londesborough Park, Pocklington and Woodhouse Grange played in the ‘Cricket Max’ competition which ultimately saw Woodhouse Grange defeat a strong Driffield team in the final.
In the pool games, the highlights saw some large scores from the Ellerton Allstars (115-1) and Woodhouse Grange (101-3) in their respective five-over games. The trick to amassing these scores was the clever use of the ‘Cricket Max Zone’ which meant all runs counted double.
The two leagues were won by Driffield and Woodhouse, with the runners-up being Bishop Wilton and the Ellerton Allstars. The first semi-final saw Driffield comfortably overcome Ellerton Allstars and Woodhouse Grange defeat Bishop Wilton to leave the final between Driffield and Woodhouse.
Woodhouse Grange batted first in the final and posted a daunting 115-2 with balls disappearing to all corners of the ground. However, in response, Driffield struggled to get close to the target and lost wickets regularly and were eventually bowled out for just 57. Woodhouse skipper Steve Burdett received the trophy as they became the new holders of the title.
Thanks must go to the groundstaff, catering support, bar manager and the committee for organising the event, which enables the club to raise much-needed funds for development works.
