Cricket: Evening League - Melbourne beat Pocklington by seven wickets

In the opening game of the Foss Evening League, Melbourne sporting their SUMO Uk Ltd sponsored kit took on Pocklington.

They took the early wicket of Pocklington captain Alex Downey when he was caught by Freddie Collins off the bowling of Natty Burge in the second over.

Joss Room had made nine when he was given out lbw in the fifth over, again off the bowling of Burge putting Pock on a concerning 16-2.

Dan Croft became Burge’s third victim when he has caught by wicketkeeper Oliver Steels in the sixth over, leaving Burge with three wickets for eight runs.

Woodward and Rudd added another 24 runs before Woodward was caught by Sam Shipley off the bowling of Melbourne captain Harry Collins.

With just nine more runs on the board, Rudd was also caught by AJ Clarke off the bowling of Collins (2-16).

Saltmer and Parkinson added a further 10 before Saltmer was caught by Jamie Kirby off the bowling of Clarke.

Parkinson found the odd loose ball, adding boundaries for vital runs for Pock to finish the 16 overs with Parkinson on 22 not out and Freddie Parry on nought not out and Pock on 88-6.

In reply, AJ Clarke and Tim Blackmore opened for Melbourne.

However, Blackmore was caught by Room in the third over. Clarke was bowled by Moorhouse in the sixth over after making 18.

Saltmer (2-12) took the wicket of Freddie Collins who was caught for 0.

With light failing rapidly, Oliver Steels and Sam Shipley dominated the game and made the most of every ball adding quick singles and boundaries at every opportunity.

Shipley hit his second six of his innings to notch up the required runs in the 13th over.

Shipley finished on 24 not out and Steels on 37 not out.
