Former Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Somerset county cricketer Peter Bowler was the principal speaker at the 54th Annual Dinner of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League which took place at York Racecourse.
The function was attended by 291 guests who heard Mr Bowler recount stories about his early cricketing life in Tasmania and his encounters, either as a team-mate or an opponent, with many of the biggest names in cricket such as Ricky Ponting, Marcus Trescothick and Andrew Caddick.
Following his entertaining speech he presented a whole host of trophies to winning individuals and clubs. These included a new trophy in memory of the late Judy Pattison, wife of the league’s managing secretary, which was presented to the league’s leading groundsman, Mike Oldfield of Sheriff Hutton Bridge.
In the absence of his club captain, John Stroughair of Woodhouse Grange accepted the league champions trophy and thanked all involved with running the league for their efforts during the past and previous seasons.
The evening was rounded off in fine style by the comedian Dusty Young.
