THE 21st Worsley Cup match between Pocklington C.C. and the Pocklington Pixies C.C. resulted in a victory for the hosts at Burnby Lane - the first time they have enjoyed consecutive victories in the series.
Pocklington were put into bat by the Pixies skipper Andy Inns and for the first time this season they registered a century opening partnership thanks to Ian Camwell (50) and John Chaplin (52).
The introduction of spin from Chris Suddaby and Mike
Newhouse made run scoring difficult but Sean Houltham (45) and Matthew Atkinson (40) held firm. In the end Chris Suddaby finished with the best return of 5 for 55 as Pocklington totalled 254 off their allotted overs.
In a similar vein it looked as though two key stands were going to see the Pixies to victory. Initially Robbie Alexander (25) and Rob Bradley (84) put on 70 together and then unfortunately Rob was run out when Martin Nesom defied his ankle injury to get to the ball quick enough to beat a despairing dive.
Then Andy Inns (46) and Adam Lye (26) were taking the Pixies to victory but Josh Room came back and John Chaplin was introduced into the attack, each man taking three wickets to ensure a victory by 22 runs.
At the trophy presentation both captains commented on the excellent spirit of the game and send their thanks to the fine efforts of Mike Smith and his band of helpers on the ground and in the clubhouse.
