Thorpe United U120
In a match that saw Pocklington Town Predators rise to the top spot of the division one, this Sunday’s game was certainly cause for celebration for the home side.
With his usual flair and eye for an opportunity Robert Cooney
notched up his first goal of the match within the five minutes, thanks to a skilful cross from Oliver Hughes.
Harry Crusher also produced some outstanding form with many a swift run up the wing and accurate passing that top league players would be proud of.
Robert almost found his second goal of the match before half time, but a wide post allowed George Pilkington to capitalise on the rebound to make it 2-0.
A simple mistake by the visitors went in the home team’s favour as an own goal saw Pocklington’s halftime lead stretch to 3-0.
The second half produced some very near misses, notable were the free kick from just outside the 18-yard box produced a beautiful curling ball that just overshot the crossbar.
Another notable miss was the high bounce just outside the goalmouth that saw Sam Finton just get his head to.
It was the flourish from Jamie Harvey that eventually produced the result though, with a one-man charge that saw him beat much of the visitors’ defence single handed to sink Pocklington’s forth goal and claim his first of the season.
With a hard, fast and accurate shot from Robert Cooney, his second of the match, the Predators produced the final score line of 5-0 which saw them rise to the top of the York Mitchell Sports Football League for the first time.
