Pocklington RUFC Ladies team is hosting its annual Womens Tag Tournament on Saturday (26 April) when some two hundred women rugby players are due to descend on Percy Road.
The event has grown impressively since it was first held three years ago, and this year’s tournament has drawn entries from as far apart at Lincolnshire and Newcastle, with Doncaster, York RI, Market Rasen, Rotherham, Malton & Norton, Leeds Universit
y, Goole, Hull University, Halifax Vandals, Percy Park, Yorkshire U18s and Leodiensian all lined up to take part.

One of the aims of the tournament is to give anyone who fancies a game of non-contact rugby the chance to play in a friendly environment, and event has attracted a number of teenagers who have just taken up rugby, in addition to a few ex-players who had drifted out of the sport. In addition, some clubs have taken the opportunity to bring youth and development sides to give them non-contact rugby experience. Full tackling might be out, but if last year is anything to go by, then the competition will still be keen, with several clubs determined to do well, and the tag rugby format means it will be high-speed, high-scoring, and end to end.

The event kicks off at 12 noon, and the finals and presentations are lined up for 5 pm.

If there is still any individual who wants to join in they can probably be accommodated in one of the sides, contact Tracy Bulmer on 07739 515513. Tracy is also hoping to put on a social touch competition for mens’ teams afterwards, between 6 pm – 8pm, and anyone interested can contact her for further details.
