LONDESBOROUGH Park's recent purple patch has rather faded to grey over the last fortnight as a trip to Selby produced a low-scoring game and little reward.
On a pitch renowned for variable bounce, skipper Charlie Rook invited the hosts to pit their wits against the Division’s premier bowling attack of Rich Foster and Mark Tissiman. Openers Hoyle and Bowden safely negotiated the strike bowler’s best effo
rts and Tom Eagling’s pace similarly failed to break the partnership which accumulated 81 in 21 overs. Then Yogi Youngman and Rob Sawyer were introduced into the attack and proceeded to turn the innings on its head. Rob cleaned up both openers in quick succession and Jarvis’s long wait with his pads on came to nought (literally) as the ginger one took a good catch to give Yogi his first wicket. Rob claimed his third with the dismissal of Welch, then the ‘Yogi Show’ took centre stage as he claimed five out of the remaining six wickets without conceding a run.
Amazingly the score moved from 106 for 3 to 110 all out as smart catching by Sam Dodd assisted Yogi to figures of 6 for 19 with the Robster chipping in with 4 for 27.
But what should have been a relatively straightforward run chase, 111 from 53 overs, didn’t quite go according to plan. The lively pace of Remaniu did for Big Bird and Sam Medley and Sam Dodd was on the the end of a beauty from Roberts to reduce the Park to 27 for 3. A solid fourth wicket partnership between Rook and Croft put the contest back in favour of the visitors until the latter was bowled by Smales for 26. Unfortunately the skipper departed in the following over and the Selby spirits were notably lifted. Sadly for the Park only Tissiman of the remaining six batsmen reached double figures as Brunyard and Smales claimed 7 wickets between them to terminate the Park’s innings , 7 runs short of victory - a disappointing outcome which sees the Park lose ground on leaders Hull YPI.
The 2nd XI, under the guidance of Steve Mudd, came away victorious after a close encounter with Yapham. The Park posted 148-8 in their innings thanks to a half century from Tom Medley, 32 from James Beevers and 26 from Blaster Barlow.
In reply Yapham were denied by Dazzler Moody (4-57) and Sam Medley (4-20) as they fell short of the target, bowled out for 131.
