Pocklington Warriors U10s 1
Bishopthorpe WR U10s 2

In the final match of the season, the Pocklington Warriors were pitted at home against Bishopthorpe WR, one of the league’s stronger sides. The visitors won the toss and elected to kick off.

An early challenge led by Brev
in Eastwood in the first minute set the tone for the Warriors’ approach to the game and this was followed five minutes later by a long shot from Tom Corner that found the visitors keeper wanting as the ball hit the back of the net to open the scoring.

Surprised by this early setback, Bishopthorpe mounted a responding charge which was stifled by the tough home defence of Edward Borrie and Matthew Terry, culminating in a forced, lacklustre shot that was easily saved by keeper Edward Woodcock.

However, a later attack by Bishopthorpe brought them an equalising goal.

Sustained pressure from Pocklington forced Bishopthorpe back on the defensive and following a flag kick a shot by Tom Corner was pushed just over the bar.

Bishopthorpe began to dominate the remainder of the first half and mounted early pressure in the second period.

Pocklington were unable to convert another opportunity when a move between Charlie Whitington, Matthew Simpson and onto striker Oliver Hughes, saw the latter’s effort well held by the away side’s keeper.

The second half closed with a blistering offensive from the away team up the wing to score their second and winning goal.
