POCKLINGTON Rocket Harry Matthews will climb back into the ring tomorrow night as he looks to preserve his perfect professional record.
The light-middleweight is already 7-0 and will look to extend that as he takes on Davey Jones in Hull.

Originally set to take on the Lincolnshire opponent, he was then matched against the Latvian Alex Spitko. But with a ban on the Riga-based boxer not being lifted until this Saturday, it was confirmed that Jones will be in the opposite corner.

Despite the uncertainty over who he would fight, Matthews remains highly confident he can get another victory under his belt. “I'm 110% certain that I will win,” he told the Post.

“All I have had to do is think about the fight, and not about making the weight. I've been eating well and have been studying my opponent because I've got a DVD of him.

“He likes to switch hit and wait for you but I will put him under a good amount of controlled pressure.”

Matthews is hoping to improve on his last performance against journeyman Duncan Cottier. He was awarded the points decision, but admitted he found it difficult to hit top gear.

Having found it difficult to make the 11st 3lb weight, tomorrow's clash will see him a few pounds heavier. He added: “Training has been going well, I will go into the fight as 11st 8lb or 9lb so I will be much stronger.

“My body is physically stronger, my fitness is better and I have put a lot of muscle on. I feel much better than I did last time out.”

Tomorrow's bout is on the undercard for Driffield welterweight Curtis Woodhouse, who takes on Dean Hickman at the 1,200 seater Gemtec Arena, next to Hull's KC Stadium.

Tickets for the evening cost £25 and a few still remain. They can be bought by contacting Harry Matthews on (01759) 306055 or on 07944972015.
