Yorkshire Plate
Pocklington U1325

Bradford & Bingley U130

Pocklington progressed to the semi-final of the Yorkshire Plate following a convincing home win over Bradford & Bingley.

‘The Bees’ started strongly using their greater weight in the forwards to for
ce their way towards the home line through a number of phases.

The Pocklington forwards stuck to their task, and eventually extinguished the threat when the visitors lost possession through a knock-on. From that point on Pocklington took command of the game.

Charlie Sleigh made a half-break through the Bees’ defence and fed Finlay Mooney who handed-off a couple of tacklers before crossing the line to score.

From the restart the home team piled on the pressure with the pack dominating against their heavier opponents. Forward pressure eventually told with Jake Meggitt driving hard and low to burst across the visitors line. On the stroke of half time Charlie made the score 15-0 with a characteristic try from the base of a scrum close in.

Bradford attacked with renewed vigour at the start of the second half but the outcome was the same as the first.

Once Pocklington gained possession they kept the pressure on, not giving the visitors any encouragement.

Finlay increased the lead by scoring in the corner when he was released by a move from a scrum in the Bees 22.

The home side narrowly missed two opportunities to add to the score before Jake completed the scoring, forcing his way over for his second try.

This was a marked improvement on Pocklington’s last outing though still some way short of their early-season form. In a good overall team performance backs and forwards combined well with tremendous effort from the back row in particular.

l Action from the game kindly submitted.
