HUNDREDS of young soldiers will remember poppy seller Stephen Deyes.
The former soldier spent five years teaching youngsters the basics of being in the forces as an instructor of the Combined Cadet Forces at Scarborough college.
Mr Deyes joined the army at 18-years-old. He had grown up knowing there was nothing else he wanted to do.

His father was a great influence having served in the army for 20 years, some of which was spent fighting during WWII.

He said: "My father was a very strict man. He would make sure we washed our hands and teeth before we went to bed, and he would inspect them. And then he would march us left and right up the stairs."

Once he had joined up and completed his basic training he went on to serve with the Royal Pioneers where he distributed stores to British troops all across the world.

He served in the Middle East and Cyprus before being posted to Northern Ireland in 1969.
