A FISHERMAN from the age of 14, Scarborough lad Jim Sheader decided to have a "change of scenery" when war broke out and joined the airforce.
He trained as a wireless operator and was sent out to Burma. He said: "They decided to teach some of us how to listen to Japanese morse code - so we knew where we would be going."
