How about just enjoying the ride rather than rush?
I cannot agree with your columnist Wally regarding the reduction of the speed limit to 50mph for another few miles.

Indeed if the limit for the stretch from Hayton to Wilberfoss was 60mph and if it were possible to maintain this speed for the whol
e eight miles or so it would take about a minute and a half less than travelling at a constant 50mph.

We all know in reality that it is not possible to maintain these speeds so the proposed reduction will make little or no difference most of the time.

In my opinion there is a strong case to reduce the national limit to 50mph which would give massive savings in fuel, emissions, tyre and engine wear and would have a great impact on stopping distances.

You would only need to add about five minutes to a 25-mile journey and in reality it may not take any longer at all because traffic would flow much better.

I cannot ever see this happening as we are all obsessed with chasing around as quickly as possible to save a couple of minutes here and there.

We could always try starting our journeys five minutes earlier and enjoy the ride.
