I read with interest the report by Nick Frame regarding the thorns left on the cycle track at Barmby Moor after hedge cutting.
I use the cycle track alongside the A1079 between Wilberfoss and Bolton Lane and a couple of weeks ago I came across a 150metre long stretch where the adjacent hedge had been flail cut and the debris left all over the path.

My afternoon's exercise was ended prematurely by two punctures to my front tyre.

After 10 days the debris was still there, as well as the grass and mud from the verge which had been smeared across the path by the weight of the tractor.

I went out with my yard brush and cleared the path myself.

It took me about an hour. This path (vital, from a safety point of view) was also well laid at great expense a couple of years ago.

It is rendered unusable for months if hedges are flail cut and the resulting thorns not cleared.

It’s a shame that whoever organises East Riding Council’s maintenance schedules doesn’t benefit from “joined thinking”.

As for the present 4x4 off road driving course which used to be recognisable as the tarmac surfaced A1079 between Feoffee Common Lane and Hayton, don’t get me started!
