I would like to know if anyone in the Pocklington area can help with my family history.
My great-great-great grandfather Richard Drake lived in Everingham most of his later life. He was married in Harswell in 1811. His son, also Richard, was born in 1817 in Harswell. He became a blacksmith and eventually had a blacksmith’s business behind the Black Swan Inn (now the Ve Raj) in Shiptonthorpe (Shipton in those days) as well as running the inn itself.
He was there for many years. His son, William, became a butcher and worked in Pocklington before finishing up in Hull.
If any of the readers have any information about these people and/or the Black Swan I would be very grateful to hear from them. I only have what I’ve found in Censuses and BMD records which is rather limited. Phone 01430626425.
