Your Memory Lane...

I was surprised to see a picture entitled ‘Market Weighton in the 1980s’.

Your picture depicts Aileen Brewer, harpist, at the conclusion of a recital which she gave in 1984 or 85 at All Saints’ Church in Market Weighton.

She was a highly-accomplished musician and came to play shortly after her success in the National Young Musician of the Year at the Royal Albert Hall.

As the photograph shows, she was small in stature but she amused the audience by telling how she had travelled the London Underground carrying her heavy harp.

Others in the photo include Eric Oxtoby, who served for many years as a dedicated churchwarden, and myself during my years as vicar of Market Weighton and Goodmanham between 1977 and 1990.
