The Christmas holidays mean changes to opening hours and travel arrangements.

Keep our handy guide to some of the key services and sale times available.

Pharmacies

If your local pharmacy is normally open on a Saturday then it will be open on Boxing Day.

The following pharmacies will also be open Christmas Day, December 28 or New Year’s Day:

Minor injury units

Minor Injury Units (MIU) can treat such injuries as: minor fractures, sprains, strains, cuts, bites and minor burns. Alternatively, call 111 for advice if it’s not an emergency.

Transport

East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS)

Christmas Eve: Normal services, but finishing around 8pm. Christmas Day: No buses. Boxing Day: No buses except some special journeys in Hull on routes 34, 56, 64, 66, 115 and 154. December 27 and 28: Sunday services will run. December 29 and 30: Saturday services will run on most routes. New Year’s Eve: Saturday services will run on most routes, but finishing at about 8pm. Trains

First Transpennine: Christmas Eve, Thursday service with earlier finish than usual; Christmas Day and Boxing Day, no service; New Year’s Day, normal Friday service with reduced service between York and Manchester. Normal service on all other days, subject to engineering works.

Northern Rail: Christmas Eve, Thursday service with earlier finish than usual; Christmas Day and Boxing Day, no service; New Year’s Eve, normal Friday service with earlier finish; New Year’s Day, amended service.

Normal service on all other days, subject to engineering works.

Bin collections

The bin collection dates for all bins (green, blue and brown) will change over the Christmas period between December 25 and January 17. Visit http://bins.eastriding.gov.uk/ to check your collection dates.

Recycling

All 10 household waste recycling sites will close at 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve and will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

All other days will be as normal opening between 10am-5pm.

Kitchen caddy liners are now available free from all household waste and recycling sites, as well as from customer service centres, leisure centres, libraries and mobile libraries.

County council services

Adult learning centres: Closed on Christmas Eve and reopen on January 2.

Children’s centre: Close on Christmas Eve at 4pm and re-open on January 4 at 9am.

Customer Service Centres: Pocklington and Market Weighton - Close on Christmas Eve at 4pm and return to normal opening times from January 2.

Council leisure centres: Francis Scaife – Closed Christmas Day-December 28 and New Year’s Day, check opening hours for other days with centre; South Cave – closed Christmas Eve, reopens January 2.

Libraries: Close at 4pm on Christmas Eve if usually open on Thursdays. Normal hours from January 2.

Mobile libraries: Holme on Spalding Moor, Christmas Eve, 9.30am-2.45pm. Normal service will resume on January 4.

Registration and celebratory service offices: Beverley - Christmas Eve, 9am-4pm; December 27-28, prebooked ceremonies only, December 29-30, 10am-3pm; New Year’s Eve, 10am-3pm; January 2-3, prebooked ceremonies only, January 4, 9am-4.30pm. Pocklington: Christmas Eve, 9.30am; closed Christmas Day to January 4.

Supermarket opening times

Sainsbury’s: Christmas Eve, 7am-9pm; Boxing Day, 9am-9pm; New Years Eve, 7am-10pm; New Years Day, 9am-9pm.

Asda: Christmas Eve, closes at 7pm; Boxing Day, 9am-6pm; New Year’s Eve: closes at 7pm; New Year’s Day, 10am-6pm.

Boxing Day Sales

Next: opens 6am.
