It was a beautiful morning when 15 members of Market Weighton Women’s Institute were welcomed on to the bus and set off to Sewerby Hall.
We arrived at 10.30am, in time for a coffee before the hall opened. After coffee we went to explore the house and gardens.
The house has been newly renovated and refurbished as it would have been in 1910. We saw a range of rooms that would have been used by the family and their servants. This gave us a flavour of life, both upstairs and downstairs, in a big house at that time. The views across the sea from the upstairs rooms were spectacular.
There were 50 acres of garden which were beautifully maintained. The wall garden was a mass of colour and the wooded area provided us with a little shade before we visited the formal gardens. We also had a chance for pitch and putt or Connect Four on the games lawn.
At lunch time we caught the land train into Bridlington for a delicious fish and chips lunch at Naked Fish. We then enjoyed an ice-cream and a stroll along the front before we caught the land train back to Sewerby to complete our exploration of the Hall, garden and zoo.
At 5pm 15 tired but happy people boarded the bus for the journey back home. We all had a very enjoyable day.
Market Weighton WI meet on the second Thursday of the month in Market Weighton Community Hall. Visitors and new members welcome.
