A community is set to commemorate both world wars following the success of their Heritage Project launch meeting recently.
‘Wartime in Shiptonthorpe’, on 8 November, will be an evening for all ages to come together, sing along to wartime songs with the Weighton Waytes Choir and enjoy poems and readings. Guests will also sit down to a two-course meal of ‘Wartime Stew and Apple Crumble’.
The event is an occasion for the village to mark 100 years since World War One and also remember life in Shiptonthorpe during World War Two. The funds raised will go towards the History of Shiptonthorpe Book and Archive.
Alan Heaven, chairman of the project, said: “We’d like everyone to come along, share their photos and memories of life in the village across the two World Wars and enjoy the fun!”
People with photographs are asked to contact Sue Beadle beforehand so that she can make a display for the event.
Guests are invited to bring their own drinks and glasses will be provided at the venue.
The event will be held in Shiptonthorpe Village Hall at 7pm.
Those wishing to buy tickets, priced at £7.50 each, can call Janet Miller on 01430 872276 and Sue Beadle on 07766 554574.
