Members of Pocklington Womens’ Institute were in party mood when they met for their Christmas party in The Masonic Hall.

A very tasty hot supper was supplied by The Fresh Food Company with delicious sweets all served by members of the committee. Wine and soft drinks were available, and with everybody ready for fun much laughter could be heard.

Mr Chris Dodds played Christmas music and as the evening progressed members enjoyed singing carols to his accompaniment. Molly Gilks, Muriel Howard, Jan Mitchell and Molly Sutton read humorous poems. Then it was time for the raffle, and prizes to be presented by the President, Barbara Ball.

The winner of the monthly competitions over the year was Barbara Vine, with Joyce Buckle and Christine Dyer in joint second place. Barbara Vine won the draw for the bursary to go to Denman College (the WI’s own educational establishment) in 2015.

There was a beautiful cake made by Margaret Hara, and everyone was invited to enjoy a piece with a cup of tea.

The president thanked everybody who had contributed to the evening’s enjoyment, and wished all present a very happy Christmas.

So a new year has started and with a new and exciting programme of meetings and outings there is much to look forward to. Visitors are always very welcome at The Masonic Hall, The Mile, at 7.15pm on the second Wednesday of each month.
