More than 30 scarecrows took over Wilberfoss at the weekend.

The village held its annual scarecrow festival last Saturday and Sunday, which attracted visitors from across the region.

Starting from Wilberfoss Community Centre, people searched for 31 scarecrows on a Great Britons theme, and then tried to guess what each one was supposed to be.

The event raised £876 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Wilberfoss WI and Wilberfoss Community Centre.

Tricia Room, presidents of the WI, which organised the event with the help of the community centre, said: “It was a really good turnout.

“We had quite a lot of people from outside the village come. There were people from York, Selby and Fangfoss.”

The winner of the best scarecrow competition was Chris Simms, who created a ‘Florence Nightingale’ scarecrow.

Linda Donkin guessed the most scarecrows correctly.
