Police warning against roadside scam

Police are investigating a possible scam where drivers on the B1246 Pocklington to Warter road were stopped by a man who flagged them down saying he'd run out of petrol.

A man of Asian appearance flagged down two motorists between 1 and 2pm on Wednesday 27 July, the man said that he’d run out of petrol and that he’d sell the passing motorists some jewellery to get cash for petrol and food.

The incident was also reported on the B1253 Sledmere to Bridlington road.

One of the motorists gave the man some money in exchange for a ring.

Police are advising drivers not to hand over cash at the roadside as it is likely to be a scam.

Police are asking for anyone who may have seen a silver people carrier type vehicle at the roadside to call them, or who also stopped to speak to the man.

Please call the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 308 of 27/07/2016.
