THE festive season on community radio station Vixen 101 includes a locally-produced version of a Charles Dickens classic, a celebration of 10 years of a renowned choir and the stories of a young accomplished musician.
In a joint venture, Market Weighton-based Vixen 101 and the Market Weighton Community Players have produced a special version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This 40-minute production, voiced by a 20-strong cast of local residents, will be broadcast on Christmas Eve at 8pm and on Christmas Day at 9am.
On Christmas Day, from 4-5pm and Boxing Day, 3-4pm, the station will broadcast a special programme to mark the 10th anniversary of the Weighton Waytes, based in Market Weighton. ‘10 Years of the Weighton Waytes’ will feature music from this year’s premiere performances of ‘1536, In the Year of our Lord’. This was the latest work by musical director Carole Readman, covering the Pilgrimage of Grace – a locally-led revolt against Henry VIII’s policies.
Talented Melbourne pianist will be choosing his favourite music in a one-hour special on Christmas Day, 6-7pm and Boxing Day, noon-1pm. In addition, Manny will talk about his passion for music, his concerts and his masterclass work at the BBC.
