A Pocklington opticians has pledged to help keep local school children safe in aid of National Road Safety Week, by donating high visibility vests to three primary schools.

Specsavers, on Market Place, has presented 200 vests to Barmby Moor Primary, Melbourne Community Primary and Wilberfoss Primary, as part of an initiative set up by Specsavers to increase the safety of children, when out and about in the community.

Robert Winlow, store director at Pocklington Specsavers, said: “At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with the winter weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians and dusk is particularly hazardous when the children are walking home from school.

“We want to help increase the safety of school children in the Pocklington area by offering local schools high-visibility vests so they can be better seen by motorists when their learning takes them out into the community, or when they’re out on school trips.”
