Tributes to ‘tremendous public servant’ Doreen

Tributes have been paid to a long-serving member of East Riding Council who has died at the age of 90.

Doreen Engall MBE first became a councillor when she was elected to Howden Rural District Council in 1973, going on to serve on Boothferry Borough Council, Humberside County Council and East Riding Council since it was formed in 1996, as ward councillor for Howdenshire. She was chairman of East Riding Council in 1997/98.

She was also a councillor on Holme-on-Spalding Moor Parish Council for more than 30 years, and only retired earlier this year.

Mrs Engall, who lived in Holme-on-Spalding Moor was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2013 for services to local government and the Humberside Fire Authority.
