Pocklington town crier Geoff Sheasby hopes to be at his blaring, booming best later this month when he takes part in the annual Loyal Company of Town Criers British Championships for the third time.

Geoff will be competing against 25 other town criers at the event on Saturday 28 September in Huddersfield.

He said: “I first competed in Bridlington in 2010, coming 11th out of 27 town criers from all over the UK.

“In Darlington in 2011, I came ninth, and so will be hoping to further improve, though there’s no guarantee.”

Geoff has been Pocklington’s bellman for over 13 years, and considers it a great privilege to represent the town once more on a prestigious national stage.

He added: “Since being invited in April to be honorary ale taster to Brass Castle Brewery, I was delighted when Phil Saltonstall, Brass Castle Brewery proprietor, generously offered to donate a bottle of Brass Castle ale to each of the 26 contestants, which I will distribute.”

The competitors will be judged on two cries.
