Pocklington and surrounding villages are growing for gold in this year’s Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
Following the spring judging in April, the Yorkshire in Bloom judges returned to Pocklington and Stamford Bridge for the summer judging. Judges Bridget Connor and Gemma Kelmanson were shown around Pocklington by town councillors David Sykes and Peter Winterton to rate the town in the large town category. The same judges visited Stamford Bridge, where they were met by some of the members from the drama group Stamford Bridge Players, who were dressed up in costume at the village’s refurbished train station platform. The village has entered the small town category. Judges Martin Burnhill and Roger Brownbridge will visit the village of Dunnington on Thursday (16 July). Dunnington, which won gold in Britain in Bloom last year, has also entered the small town category this year.
