Three die in A164 horror car crash

THREE people died in a head-on car crash on the A164 at East Cowick near Goole.

It happened at 1.30pm on Saturday when a 70-year-old woman driving a Volvo collided with a Golf carrying a family of four from Birmingham.

The woman, Sheila Stavert-Lee of Wigginton near York, the Golf’s driver Derek John Sarkar of Sheldon Heath Road in Birmingham and his son and front seat passenger 14-year-old Ethan all died in the crash.

The rear seat passengers from the Golf - Mr Sarkar’s 43-year-old wife and nine-year-old daughter, were air lifted to Leeds General Infirmary and remain in hospital in a serious condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact them as it appears the Volvo had crossed onto the wrong side of the road into the path of the oncoming Golf.
