Will Sowden was the first winner of the Ruth Aldridge Award.
Will Sowden was the first winner of the Ruth Aldridge Award.

The Market Weighton School held its first annual Awards Evening on Tuesday 19 July.

The event was a huge success with 124 students being awarded book prizes and certificates for their effort and achievement.

Congratulations go to Nathan Green (Year 7), Jess Mellor (Year 8), Ella Waring (Year 9) and Luke Potter (Year 10) who all won Headteacher Awards.

The Ruth Aldridge Award which has been introduced to recognise a pupil who like Ruth, demonstrates utmost care and support for others was won by William Sowden. Ruth sadly passed away earlier this year having worked at the school as a Teaching Assistant supporting students in the Nurture Group.

Ruth would have been proud to have seen this award won by William – he is a worthy first ever winner of this prestigious award.

Thanks to go Chris Clubley who was the guest speaker and the generosity of local businesses who sponsored the prizes, some of whom attended the event.

The sponsors were Chris Clubley and Co, The Rotary Club of Weighton Wolds, AJF Electrical, Britcom, Coles Solicitors, Co-Op, ESH Build, Hall and Featherstone, Hopwells, Hornseys, Imperial Cleaners, Langlands, The Market Weighton Community Shop, Montracon and Tesco.
