East Riding Council and Pocklington-based estate agent Grays and Co are highlighting the benefits of hiring an apprentice during National Apprenticeship Week (14 and 18 March).

Grays and Co has been working with the council over a number of years and has recruited five apprentices at its two sites. Sammy Stephenson, 17, from Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, has just completed her level two business administration apprenticeship. She said: “I left school with good exam grades, but didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I saw this local vacancy advertised on the National Apprenticeship Service website and applied. The whole process has been straightforward and I’ve never looked back. I’ve had really good support from my employer which has meant that my first experience of work has been a good one. I’m now employed full time with the company as a negotiator.”
