A student from Pocklington is organising an evening of musical entertainment to raise funds for a school expedition to Malawi next year.
Woldgate College pupil Emily Whitaker, 17, of Burnby Lane, is holding the event on 26 September at Barmbyfield Barns in Barmby Moor. It will showcase three local and talented singer-songwriters - Daisy Allen from Pocklington, Beth McCarthy from York, who appeared on BBC1’s Series 3 of The Voice, and The Bryll’s from Leeds. The evening will include an Indian meal and a bar. A raffle will also be held, with many prizes up for grabs donated by local businesses, including Embarque Travel, David Lloyd, Waitrose, Westrow, Glam Spa, The KP, Browns Greengrocers, White Cherry Bakery, Stadium Sports Massage, Jinnah Flaxton and Mouse House Floral Designs.
Over the coming months, Emily is aiming to raise £3,300 for a trip to Malawi in July 2016, she’s a third of the way there before the event.
The trip, organised by Outlook Expeditions in partnership with her school Woldgate, will involve working with the Children’s Fund project, which helps build houses for orphaned children.
They will also spend time at the Ministry of Hope Crisis Nursery, which provides care for babies born with HIV, who have been abandoned or are in life threatening situations.
Emily said: “I would like to thank all the local businesses for their support.
“I’ve been humbled by their generosity.”
