A student from Pocklington has raised £450 for the Stroke Association, after completing a sponsored silence to show her support for her granddad.
Hannah Kelly, 16, of Percy Road, chose to complete the 24-hour sponsored silence after her granddad, William Knapton, 81, had a stroke in September last year. He was left with aphasia, meaning his ability to communicate was seriously affected and he was unable to speak.
Hannah said: “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love to talk, so this was a real challenge for me. Having seen the way my granddad was affected by his stroke, I wanted to join him in his frustration and show my support.”
