Stars of the straw stuffed variety drew crowds to Elvington recently thanks to an annual event which also helped keep the birds away.
The scarecrow competition, set around the village, saw more creative villagers pull out all of the stops to produce more than 40 of the stationary attractions.
They were all dotted around the village and visitors were encouraged to drop in and follow the trail.
Amongst those on display were Rupert Murdoch and Pippa Middleton.
And, despite the rain, people still made the effort to join in the fun.
Jean Ripley, chair of the village hall committee, said: “It was somewhat wet but we did make a good profit considering the weather.
“It’s the tenth time we have done this and we were hoping for big things.”
More than £400 was raised over the two days, money which will go towards redecorating the village hall.
