Students from Pocklington School have just returned from the trip of a lifetime, after spending four weeks in Tanzania.

Nine students and three staff went on the exhibition, taking on arduous treks, camping wild and scaling the heights of Kilimanjaro.

The group arranged everything, from the flights to the food, themselves and raised money for the trip with part-time jobs and sponsorship.

For many the highlight was working in Poli village in the North East of Tanzania camping in the garden of the village chairman, Mr Palangyo, while helping local builders construct a new toilet block for Nkoakirika Primary School. The students and staff also assisted teaching and sports coaching during their time at the school. Martin Davies, one of the teachers on the trip, said: “The month-long expedition had been two years in the planning.

“What is certain is that the relationship between Pocklington School and Nkoakirika Primary School will develop over the coming years and it is hoped that there will be similar expeditions in the years to come.”
