Residents were blown away when a tent was lifted onto the roof of a house in Pocklington by strong winds, as the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo hit the region this week.
Firefighters were called to Springfield Road and climbed a ladder to remove the tent, which was wrapped around a television aerial on the house.
The owner of the property said: “I couldn’t believe it.
“A lady came to the door and said ‘do you know there is a tent on your roof?’ Then somebody else came. People were stood at the top of the road and the bottom of the road watching it. I rang the fire brigade and they sent some from Beverley. He said he hadn’t seen anything like it in 21 years. So he called the fire brigade from Pocklington Fire Station and they took it down.”
