Slimmers in Market Weighton have two reasons to celebrate after shedding more than 600lb in just six weeks and raising funds for local causes in the process.

The Market Weighton Slimming World group, which has about 120 members, achieved the weight loss during a six-week sponsored slimathon, which helped them raise £270.

Half of the funds will be donated to the Riding for the Disabled group in Harswell and the other half will go towards building a new sensory garden at Market Weighton Infant School.

Maria Taylor, who runs the group, said: “The slimathon was a challenge at times but the group were so motivated and the 606lb weight loss in six weeks just shows how committed they are.”

In addition, the slimmers recently donated clothes which are now too big for them to Cancer Research UK.

The Market Weighton Slimming World group meets on Tuesdays at the town’s Community Centre in Station Road. For more information, call Maria on 01430 872352.
