SUCCESSFUL slimmers have missed out on being named the biggest losers at a national award ceremony.

Couple Sue and Steve Eastoe from Hayton were nominated for the finals of the Slimming World gongs after losing 12st 7lb between them.

They were named the regional winners and invited to Derby recently for a chance to gain national glory against 25 other couples, but narrowly missed out on the top spot.

Steve, who at the start of 2010 was tipping the scales at 27 stone, but is now 10 stone lighter and a committed member of Pocklington Runners, said: “We were delighted to make it to the finals of the competition and we had a great day meeting the other couples who’ve all been through the same experience as us.

“Like most people, we didn’t gain weight overnight.

“I think when you’re in a happy relationship it’s easy for your weight to creep up.”

Jayne Pitcher, who runs the Pocklington Slimming World group, says: “I’m so proud of Steve and Sue.

“They’re living proof that slimmers are more successful when they lose weight with a loved one.

“It’s so hard to stay motivated when you’re going it alone and having someone there when the going gets tough is a great motivational boost.”
