Organisers of the Pocklington Chrysanthemum Show are hoping for an increase in entries at this year’s event.
The 68th annual show, taking place on 7 November at Burnby Hall in Pocklington, will feature more than 100 classes for people to enter, covering chrysanthemums, fruit, vegetables, handicrafts, flower arranging, wine making, cookery and photography. There will also be a section for children, with categories for all ages and abilities. Sheila Smith, secretary of the Pocklington Chrysanthemum Society, which organises the show, said: “We’re always hoping for more entries. It went very well last year. We always aim for about 400 entries but we have had 500 in the past.”
The show will be open to the public from 1.30pm to 5pm, with the presentation of trophies at 5pm by the Mayor of Pocklington, councillor Martin Ratcliffe. Competitors can take their entries to Burnby Hall on 6 November between 5pm and 8pm and 7 November between 7.30am and 10.45am when there will be committee members available to help exhibitors. Anyone interested in the Society or would like a schedule for the upcoming show are asked to call Mrs Smith on 01759 304036. Schedules are also available at Pocklington Cobblers, on George Street.
