Pocklington’s Art and Rose Gallery is hosting an interesting new exhibition from artist Shirley Goodsell called ‘North and South’.

The exhibition which contrasts the landscapes of southern France with those of East Yorkshire, was opened by the Lord Lieutenant of East Riding Council Susan Cunliffe-Lister on 31 August.

Shirley Goodsell has previously exhibited around the region but this is the first one since she had a serious eye operation last year.

Shirley who lives in Cottingham said: “The whole point of the exhibition is to catch the ambiance and feel of the two places I love the most, Provence and East Yorkshire.

“I had a serious eye operation two years ago that saved me from going blind in one eye.

“My vision until then was getting opaque and colour was getting less intense. This exhibition is my first since that traumatic time.”

The exhibition runs at The Art and Rose Gallery until September 28th.
