Visits by a popular children’s author and a world-renowned linguist created a buzz of excitement among pupils and staff at Pocklington School.

Professor David Crystal OBE delivered a public lecture about the close links between the study of language and appreciation of literature, drawing on a range of examples from well-known literature to illustrate his points.

Louise Lamb, deputy head of English, said: “We were delighted to welcome David and Hilary Crystal to Pocklington: their energy, enthusiasm and knowledge were inspiring.

“The presence of many other schools across Yorkshire just showed what an important and memorable event this was.”
