Dozens of scarecrows brightened up Market Weighton’s High Street at the weekend.

A Little and Large Scarecrow Day was held in the town on Saturday, with 16 straw characters on display along the High Street.

Organiser Gillian Riley said: “We had a very successful day. Hopefully it will be held again next year.”

In addition, the Market Weighton Town Team ran a scarecrow competition through schools in the town for youngsters to take part in by making little scarecrows using two-litre pop bottles.

There were 36 little scarecrows on display in Market Weighton Community Hall. Also in the hall, there were a number of craft and market stalls as well as a bouncy castle.

Residents voted for their favourite straw characters on the day, and two scarecrows of the Queen were voted as the best large and best little scarecrows.
